So, no, this isn't a Criminal Intent post, but I had to share this vid with anyone and everyone I know in my "fun" life.

The amazing TatyanaOracle created this vid for me as a Christmas present. Tatyana is amazing, her talent is amazing and this video is amazing. Every time I watch it, I see something new, both content-wise and technically. (It took me many viewings to see Erica ghost into view at :49-:51).
If you don't subscribe to Tatyana on YouTube, you should! You'll never be bored as she vids almost anything you'd imagine - except vampires. She has this vampire thing..... vbg.

I really enjoyed this series - the characters are what kept me coming back every week. Jack and Erica were sometimes like oil and water, but had the same moral center which bonded them. He never lost his focus or moral compass and his purpose was to center her when she was pulled in every direction imaginable. I think I was also charmed that this was filmed in Vancouver and I love spotting landmarks.

And did I mention this was an amazing vid? Tatyana has shown all the things mentioned in the last paragraph and more. It is a wonderful gift that I enjoy almost daily!

An Excuse to Play With Criminal Intent

If you read my Human Target Blog or follow my LiveJournal, you'll know that I've joined this round of the TV Realm Challenge. I really wasn't sure about this, but thanks to the support of havers (havers on LJ and Blog Mom of Lovely Kathryn) I'm having a blast!

Because I love making fanvids so much, I'm trying to do them for as many challenges as I can.

My first chance for vidding was the Bingo Challenge:

Each participant had to choose a row and a column or a diagonal... you know, Bingo.
So I chose the column starting with The End and the row starting with Memories. Don't ask about the abbreviations. I just don't even want to know!

Vids have to be over 10 seconds. Not a problem. Making them shorter is a problem. I hate cutting up the music.

The End had to be Criminal Intent, from the last scene in the series and it got long enough that it went on its own.

So far, along with The End, I've done Just Kiss The Girl (twice, once for the column and once for the row), Bliss, Shine and Dress Up. Human Target is in Just Kiss the Girl and Dress Up.

You give the Bliss prompt to a V (2009) fan and there is only one thing you can do with it... You'll find Eames and Goren show up in Dress Up - and Eames is wearing the dress that havers now owns - how cool is that?

I was so upset when they wrote Emily Prentiss out ofCriminal Minds! I guess it’s a case ofnot realizing how much you care about something till it’s gone.

When I heard they were bringing her back, I was dancing thehappy dance and it must have been a BIG happy dance - enough to tip me intovidding a new fandom - and so the months of work began.

My fond thanks to the vibrant Paget Brewster for bringingthe intelligent, feisty and caring Emily Prentiss to life on the screen. Welcome back!

Hopefully they now know each other’s secrets and Hotch won’tcontinue to pay the price for keeping Emily’s from Morgan…. What burdens Hotch bears.

I hope this vid is up to joining some very amazing CriminalMinds fanvids. I’ve been a fan since Day1 and have enjoyed every minute of making this vid. It was fun finding clips of Emily with each of her teammates. Some clips were obvious choices, some I fell on unexpectedly, only recalling them when quickly reviewing an episode. I'm pretty nervous about sharing it with hardcore fans!

I adore this song. Video creation happens way faster when I can't get the song out of my head.... And I knew I was spending too much time vidding when I was dreaming about Hotch - and he wasn't even the focus of this vid!

This video should be viewable everywhere. When you see it anywhere else on YouTube, there is no link to iTunes and I have had no email from YT about using the song.

Criminal Intent - Great Companion (video)

Robert Goren and Alex Eames, Bobby and Alex, however you know them, they were our great companions for most of the last 10 years.

This is a request for jclaymate123, who has since closed her YT account. If someone knows her, perhaps they can let her know this vid is here.

There are 49 episodes included here - hard to believe, eh? I love how Season 10, after the Loyalty hug, is so bright! That wasn't me doing that, it was the production and I though it created such a satisying ending during the instrumental "epilogue". It's like they will go on and on forever.

There really was nothing new here, except a few kernals of expression that I might not have highlighted before. Sorry about that..... I decided to choose scenes, rather than orphan random clips for this. A 5 minute video was a huge challenge! And yet it wasn't enough time. I need to go back to the series DVDs and watch full episodes for real satisfaction!

One of the most popular and my personal favorite of the entire "Law & Order" television franchise, "Criminal Intent" comes to a close this Sunday night after a 10 year run; 7 years on NBC and 3 years on the USA network. Starring the incredible Vincent D'Onofrio as the complex Detective Robert "Bobby" Goren and his partner, Detective Alexandra Eames, portrayed by the equally talented Kathryn Erbe, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" chronicled the exploits of the NYPD's "Major Case Squad". Goren's skill as a brilliant criminal profiler, coupled with the snarky wit of Eames and a bevy of great guest stars, helped make the show one of the best police dramas ever written for television.

Fans of the show fell in love with Goren's idiosyncracies; the way he would bend his body and lean over suspects to interrogate them; his now legendary, long running battle with serial killer Nicole Wallace, played by Olivia D'Abo; his affection for his mom, wonderfully played by Rita Moreno and the discovery that serial killer William Brady, portrayed by actor Roy Scheider in one of his final performances. D'Onofrio and Erbe's performances throughout these personal story-lines took the series into territories not usually seen on the original Law & Order' or in the other spin-offs like. "Special Victims Unit", "LA", "Trial By Jury" and even "Law & Order: UK". Criminal Intent's popularity would also spawn an international version of the series in France, known as "Criminal Investigations", ('Paris enquêtes criminelles").

Goren's relationship with his partner Eames is also one of the best on television, well written and handled with care. Their affection for one another is evident, and the way the writers of the show have forged their friendship through the fire of their cases is remarkable. Read the rest of the article here. Johnny Eames & Daughter

This scene from Last Street in Manhattan S10E4 completely blindsided me! I had this preconceived notion that Eames was a Daddy’s girl and their relationship was a doting father to his spunky daughter. Of course it might have been that way in the past, but not now.

No wonder Eames is so walled in. I question if she’s ever had any warmth from this father especially when sober. There were no touches, no words of affection. She snarks and he doesn’t notice or chooses not to notice. She might even be holding back... When I see this it explains why she has almost never touched Goren in their 11 or 12 years as partners (just check the Bump/Touch list!). There are certainly no ODAs (Open Display of Affection) from this woman. I’m starting to think that it’s not just Goren who has survived a difficult upbringing.

We know Eames mother had a stroke, but we don’t know if she passed away or is in a home. Whichever, Johnny Eames is not doing well, unless you regard sitting in his chair drinking and smoking all day a good quality of life. It looks like Alex doesn’t think so – she caps his whiskey bottle and empties his ashtray with a stony expression. I wonder how many times a week she does this? Her demeanor is not that of a child that’s happy to drop in on her parent with a smile and easy conversation. Is she just uncomfortable because Goren is there? I think not.

I found it interesting that Alex emphasizes her father's bigotry in front of Goren. We all know Goren is getting tons of information about them both without Alex speaking a word. He watches her fuss around with interest, perhaps even surprise. He appears comfortable in Johnny Eames' home, he may have been there before, but he still refers to him as Mr. Eames.

Do you think Alex was appalled that her Dad equated Bobby with Driscoll in such an insulting way?
“He’s a monster.”
“But smarter than he looks.” (from Goren)
“Just like you Bobby”
OMG! I think I would have shot my Dad!!! Alex tells her Dad to eat his sandwich…. (and shut up, would be the subtext)

Do you think it’s the booze talking when Mr. Eames complains about no grandchildren? He seems to have pretty selective memories concerning a certain surrogate pregnancy. That was a horribly cheap shot on his part. Does the lack of grandchildren from Alex reflect on him or does he feel that Alex isn’t complete without children?
Now normally Goren and Eames would exchange glances after a comment like that from a suspect, but Goren looks down before that can happen. And it looks like she isn't going to do the eye contact thing anyway.

The best part of this scene was after they left. It was wonderful to see Goren put his own sad history behind to make such a sweet comment praising, supporting and encouraging her with a simple, “It’s good he has you”.
It’s a personal comment so out of the norm for these two that she brushes it off with “Yeah, whatever”. Do you think she realizes how significant his words are? Perhaps not at that moment.
Goren is not the only person with a difficult parent relationship. Maybe he’s taking the opportunity to return some of the quiet non-judgmental support she always provided for him. Good on him! He’s come a long way.

So I've strayed yet again.

To enjoy this vid, Criminal Intent fans will have to get over that Joel Gretsch who plays Jack Landry also played the philandering obnoxious husband, Jason Raines, to Brooke Shield's character in Siren Call (S6E2) -- this character couldn't be more different and if you watch the V series, you forget him quickly. You may recall Jason Raines took a swing at Goren. lol! That didn't turn out so well....

Jack Landry is faithful to God, to fighting the Visitors and to Erica Evans. Erica is faithful to her son Tyler, to fighting the Vs and ultimately to Jack.

Jack Landry is a fascinating character with a strong moral compass who speaks his mind. He is sensitive, caring and empathetic. He is the perfect feminine counterpart to Erica's masculine-tough, determined and in-control exterior. They are a wonderful pairing with a joint goal and enormously complimentary skills. He keeps her grounded, she pushes him to his moral limits and circumstances push him even beyond.

The Jack and Erica relationship is electric at times. There is a good reason Hobbes quips about The Thornbirds in the boxing scene. There exists a huge bond of trust between the priest and the FBI agent. They disagree -- Erica gets right in Jack's face numerous times - but they always come back to each other.

The biggest shake up to their relationship is after Joe dies and Tyler leaves. Erica becomes emotionally shut down to everything but anger and pushes Jack away. In her devastation and numbness Erica physically turns to Hobbes. Jack understands the kind of man Hobbes is and is crushed that Erica chooses Hobbes. After 12 years as a priest, he is poorly equipped to intervene on his own behalf. If Jack had shown up on Erica's doorstep instead of Hobbes that night or if he'd answered Erica's phone call, we'd have a different story. (Relax Jack, Erica called Hobbes the "break" she needed from real life, not exactly the basis for a deep lasting relationship.)

About the quote at the end: We'll leave it for Anna to figure out, since she's so hung up on finding the human soul....

As for Hobbes. Yes, he is a glorious hunk of masculinity. But he has an agenda, mixed loyalties and is basically responsible for Erica's ex-husband's death. He came as a paid mercenary and late to the party. Like Ryan, he was not up-front with his conflicting issues and betrayed Erica and Jack although at the end of Season 2 they are not aware of that yet. He also took advantage of Erica when she was vulnerable. He is not a good guy.

Thanks to my friend tjara for introducing me to this song. It is brilliant. It is so powerful and I thought it suited this pairing perfectly, although she is not a V fan so will not realize the gem she sent my way!

The whole air around the show seems to be smoother, more relaxed than ever before - the interaction between the characters is completely in synch. It's delightful.

The Consoler Screen Caps

Well I haven't even finished watching the episode yet and I'm having to grab caps as soon as I see them!
I haven't had a chance to analyse anything, but I sure like what I see!

When was the last time you saw Goren's arm on the back of Eames chair? Like NEVER.

Can't you just hear Eames thinking, "Tell me I didn't just hear you call the boss a moron"

Followed by "Oh, man, don't alienate another boss - especially so soon....." Eames is pretty nervous around the new captain later on when Goren slams the table.

Oh, loved this! Goren gestures to the guy to go through the door and then squeezes through at the same time. So good to have you back Robert!

Now this is more like it! Put your heads together and figure it out!

He certainly doesn't look triumphant about this one. If Eames was in the room, she'd get "the look".

And about the psychiatrist - it was okay. Vincent D'Onofrio was excellent creating a defensive uncertain Robert Goren. Goren values his job enough to do what he's told. I'm not sure he'll ever "give anything up to her", but in talking and listening, it may soothe some of his demons. At some point Eames will be brought up. Now that makes *me* uncomfortable for him!

As a vidder, I am completely over the moon with this episode. There are loads of great clips! This was an excellent episode. Absolutely excellent!

Well, ya, I'm cheating on Robert Goren again. But really this song wasn't going to cut it for Goren and Eames right now. We're all too happy about their return to be doing angst.

One Year Later

It was a year ago on April 9th that I posted my Criminal Intent - Loyalty video. For all intents and purposes this was our final goodbye to Goren and Eames and Criminal Intent. Most of the people I hang out with were outraged and so disappointed in USA Network on so many levels. I haven't watched any new episodes which aired afterwards.

Several days after the episode aired I stayed up till 4 am and created Loyalty. And in a few hours it will turn over 20,000 viewings. Thanks to everyone who has loved and watched Loyalty.

What an incredible difference a year makes. In a few weeks, Season 10 begins and we are back where we should be. We are being delighted with Goren and Eames promotional videos and photos - and thanks to everyone having a camera in their cell phone and ease of social networking we are getting more information than ever! No more sad video creations will be made in the near future! And suddenly, even watching Loyalty brings a small smile.

Christopher Chance and Ilsa Pucci are very different and yet the same when it comes to strong will and the need to do the right thing. This is about the other side of the action show. It is their story in chronological order. So Ilsa, is he worth it?

I missed Valentine’s by one day.

There ends the short story.

Chance is a former assassin, whose conscience has pushed him to the other end of the spectrum and is now using his talents as a bodyguard to, in his own way, make amends. In Season 2 of Human Target, billionaire and recently-widowed Ilsa Pucci steps in to underwrite Chance’s redemption after he successfully uncovers and neutralizes a plot to steal her fortune.

At first she is enthusiastic, giving Chance and his team everything they want financially, but has second thoughts as she witnesses some of their unorthodox methods. She sees up-close and in-detail the backlash of Chance’s past. Once she accepts that the outcome justifies the means, she settles into a relatively comfortable partnership with Chance, although she continues to struggle with their methods at times. When Maria, an old relationship from Chances past returns, a power struggle develops between the partners which spills over into the next episode, “Communication Breakdown”. I think Ilsa’s fit was all about jealousy, something I totally did not expect from her!

I needed a longer song for this video! There are so many great clips left out because of lack of time. I really regret omitting the rest of the team who make a brilliant ensemble. I think I have to make another Human Target video just so I can use the clip of Guerrero blowing up the Eldo in “Marshall Pucci”. Another thing lacking (but hinted at) in this video is the humour throughout the show. I only caught a few things – like the time Chance looks at her as if she has two heads, when she almost blows his eardrum out and the clip of him climbing over the top edge of the building.

I love Ilsa Pucci. She’s elegant, exotic and is driven by the need to do good. And as Chance says, “I don’t think I’ve met anyone quite as strong as you are”. During the 13 episodes she has appeared in, he has learned that she was far from a trophy wife, is willing to take chances for others and is completely capable of rescuing him if need be. Not to mention she’ll jump off buildings with him… more than once. And she scares him. Gotta love that.

And what does she see in him? Besides the obvious. I guess that he is trying to do the right thing the best way he knows how and that he is confident in his abilities. He has fun doing what he does. He is motivated by more than money, which fascinates her, and he wants to fix everything.
It was an obvious choice to use this amazing song, but I didn’t realize how good it was till I paid closer attention to the lyrics.

What is pretty cool about Human Target is that it’s filmed in Vancouver. I used to work in the building they “use” as their office building. They filmed in the UBC undergraduate Chemistry labs – which don’t seem to have changed since I was there! There are so many Vancouver scenes that I get a jolt when I see the aerial shots of San Francisco.

I had a blast making this vid. It’s like dancing to great music with wonderful partners.

Criminal Intent - Hands Up (video)

The idea of a "hands" video started over a year ago for Tjara's birthday when I made her a mini-vid which you can see here. Unfortunately, the song I used for her video is by Simple Plan and I've had two other full length videos (two of my best!) using Simple Plan songs banned by YouTube. I think I've learned my lesson.

When Hedley came out with this song, my opportunity arrived and I've had a blast making this video. A BIG thanks to the cimusers who told me where to find specific clips from episodes I couldn't remember and for suggesting some favourite "hand" clips. Now crank up the volume and enjoy!

Eames vs Callas?

Now considering Kathryn Erbe has not announced she is returning to Criminal Intent, this is a bit premature. But in spite of setting oneself up for disappointment, it's hard not to speculate on what could be in Season 10 of Criminal Intent.

So there is a new captain: Zoe Callas (I had to look this up as I haven't watched an episode since Goren and Eames left). Obviously to get to this point Callas must be a strong woman. As my friend Tjara pointed out, Callas has the job Eames should have had. True. True also that Eames turned it down.

Now wouldn't it be interesting to have some roll reversal going on in Season 10?

In previous years it's been Goren butting heads with Ross - and Eames cutting through the crap (see this blog post for those antics). But how about two strong women going head to head? Will Goren be the one smoothing the waters? The dynamics could be absolutely fascinating and add even more insight to the characters we already love!

Come on Kathryn! Please announce your return to Criminal Intent!

I have had a life-long love of Left-handed people. I don't know. There is just something different about them. The ones I know in person have the greatest sense of humour. I usually notice Lefties instantly in real life. Maybe they have a determination about them that I like as they adapt to to the Rightie world. (Teaching calligraphy, I see my fair share. There were 3 in one class in Winnipeg last fall!)

It's a little harder when you're watching the tube, though. I think it was years before I realized Oprah was a Leftie. In drama series, there are tons of Lefties. I swear there is at least one per show.

The Lefties I know in real life are pretty ambidextrous. But Robert Goren isn't. I don't know whether it's because you see him writing a lot (and of course he carries his gun on the other hip) or just what, but Vincent D'Onofrio screams Leftie in almost every scene.

I love this scene in Cuba Libre. Ever noticed the switch from his left hand to right so he can correctly demonstrate what probably happened during the crime?

The War at Home Push-Pull

Thanks to Marie’s comments about the elevator in my recent blog entry, I thought maybe it was a good time to examine the Goren and Eames relationship throughout The War at Home. What a mess of a story – on so many levels. Nobody had a good Thanksgiving weekend that year.

Goren is caught in between two incredibly strong forces, a dying mother who is his only connection to a much wanted and needed family life and his job which defines who he is and what he excels at. Pull-Pull

A third element pulls at Goren – perhaps unexpected to him. Eames is concerned for him. Not family and not really the job. Pull-Pull-Pull

Eames is caught as well. She tries repeatedly to be an ear for Goren and he continually brushes her off. Pull-Push. Perhaps it’s because she makes the mistake of always asking about his personal life in front of Ross. She could not have been more accommodating and concerned towards him in the first three-quarters of the episode. Then he walks out on the Deputy Commissioner and Captain Ross and sweeps everything off his desk. Eames has had enough and speaks sharply to him in front of the elevator.

Robert Goren doesn’t make mistakes very often, but angering your partner is a biggie and as far as she is concerned, it’s time to give him a good shake, so she challenges him for an explanation. PUSH and Pull. She’s worried that he’s jeopardizing his job. She really doesn’t want that. She has continued in a very comfortable (but dynamic) working relationship since she “acquired the taste” for his style.

Eames is saying “Just – I know….” when he cuts her off with “Back off”. What a pity we don’t hear what she’s about to say.

That “back off” was probably the comment that set her off. Boy, if they were married, he’d be eating cold shoulder that night. After offering him a warm shoulder, it got *really* cool. And he seemed to be baffled. What a guy! Goren is still all wrapped up in his own issues and had no idea he’d hurt her feelings. For a guy who can pick up subtle nuances in his suspects, he is so hopeless with Eames. Sometimes he treats her like a piece of furniture.

And what is she thinking as he walks out at the end saying “Fire me”. It was more than a message to Ross, it was a message to Eames expressing his displeasure with the cold shoulder.

We, the audience, are also feeling the Push-Pull. As Marie said, we want to hug Goren and make it better and we want to smack him to make him realize how obtuse he’s being towards Eames.

We feel for the loss of the daughter, but want to shake Dockerty for his stiff upper lip and high expectations he placed on her.

We know that Captain Ross insisted Goren work the case when he was the last person who should have been there, but Goren’s always the best man for the job.

Some of us will be annoyed at Eames for not being more understanding towards Goren. Personally, I thought she was perfect!

The War at Home is the 8th episode in Season 6 and was written by Warren Leight, Diana Son and Julie Martin. This is one of those episodes that leaves no one satisfied. Except maybe those of us who are happy catching glimpses of the intimate side (as my friend Susan so correctly refers to it) of the Goren/Eames relationship, however hard it is to watch.

What Eames is Packing

OBC and I got to "talking" today - I won't even tell you what got us started.... The conversation ended up wondering what type of guns our detectives carry. None of us can forget that last scene before the series is effectively finished. Eames' gun and badge are easy to see here. OBC went off to find out what the standard issue for NYPD officers was and then I went off to do the image comparison. From the choices we were given, we're pretty sure this is a Glock 9mm - you could buy one online for $499 last year. (And that's really more info than I needed to know.) They all look pretty similar to me....

And what does Robert Goren carry? Ah, time for more research!

Goren & Eames and Elevators

So what is it about these two and elevators? They seem to have some of their most interestingly intense and emotional interactions near elevators.

In early years, an elevator provided us with a light quirky Goren moment in Great Barrier. Whoa! He almost touches her. What’s with *that*? He shows a little attack of claustrophobia - as if he doesn’t travel up and down the elevator at 1PP many times a day….

Much later in Season 6, the elevator becomes a place where Goren and Eames actually interact with one another on an emotional level, first in The War at Home. It’s hard to forget the stress of the situation immediately after Goren’s famous frustrated desk-sweep. Eames has finally lost patience with him. She’s been trying express her concern and awareness that he is torn between duty to his mother and duty to his job. After he tells her to “back off” he actually guiltily lifts his eyes enough to see her reaction.

Initially, I thought she looked really pissed at him, but I think it’s not anger she’s showing.

At the end of Season 6 in Endgame, we have another tense elevator scene. Goren is off to see serial killer Mark Ford Brady. And he’s not taking Eames. Here too, she knows he is stressed and follows him to the elevator to confront him. He doesn’t want her there and leaves an uncharacteristically visibly-emotional Eames outside the elevator once again. Love the little look he gives her just as he enters the elevator. There are not very many scenes over the eight years (plus 2 episodes) where these two interact at this level. But again, here they are outside the elevator.

At the end of Season 7 in Frame, we have a simply wonderful scene inside the elevator. The tiny Eames and the big slumping bear of a Goren; what a brilliant picture. A picture that paints a million words. Her concern, his grief. It’s all there and they really don’t have to say a word.

So I wonder what transpired in their very last elevator ride together as Major Case partners?

That made me remember that my friend havers wrote a very sweet 100 word Drabble which takes place just after the screen fades to black in the very last scene in Loyalty. It’s called Together and beautifully features THE ELEVATOR. You can read it here!

After All

These days I'm more than likely to let any anniversary or special date zoom past me, but hopefully that will change soon.

This one didn't slip by unnoticed. After All has passed 20,000 viewings. Wow! Thanks to everyone who has watched it and loved it enough to watch it again. I remember two years ago standing stock still and listening to Cher and Peter Cetera and thinking, wow, this is Goren and Eames; still together after all the crap that's been thrown at them.
And in my little shipper heart, in spite of what transpired in Loyalty, I hope they are still together somewhere. After all.

She Was Convinced She Had His Complete Attention

Ever danced with someone who wasn't all "there" with you?

Check out Robert Goren as he dances with these ladies in two different episodes. They are certain they have his full attention. But who is it that he swivels his head for three times? Eames, of course. The devilish look before he twirls Margie in Pas de Deux happens near the start of the clip, but I had to leave it running because.... well, because.

Amends - An Observation

My friend havers refreshed my memory today. She had just noticed that Manny Beltran, the man who had murdered Eames' husband was the doctor who attended Kevin Quinn when he was brought into Emergency at the beginning of the show.

It's hard to catch these details when you've only seen this episode once or twice. We're so caught up in an Eames-focused emotionally-charged episode, that we forget to watch for those juicy gifts given by good writers.

I got to thinking about the episode aside from the Eames factor and realized that Joe Dutton's murder was the "gift" that kept on giving. Manny Beltran murdered Joe Dutton nine years before this episode takes place and in this episode Manny Beltran, now a doctor, attempts to save the life of Joe's then-partner, Kevin Quinn. A nice twist.

At the end when finally cornered, Beltran explains to Goren and Eames he's tried to make amends by becoming a doctor, by saving hundreds of lives. Eames replies "It doesn't make up for the one you took away."

Although Manny Beltran may have only pulled the trigger and killed one man, he is ultimately responsible for Kevin Quinn's death and the death of his own cousin, Alfred Minaya.

If Beltran had turned himself in at the time, they would not have imprisioned the wrong man for Joe Dutton's murder (Ray Delgado is also a victim here), thus sending Ray's son on killing spree to avenge his father's imprisonment.

Victor Delgado may also be a victim. Except now he's a murderer, too. And his father will be set free.

The Filled Binders!

A huge thanks to Susan, our Administrative Anchor, for not only receiving the pages at the post office, but purchasing the fun accessories, assembling the binders, contacting the agencies and shipping (or delivering in person!). We can never thank you enough! (When I list those off, it makes me wonder what I did to contribute!!!)

So if you hang around on the internet very long, you’ll find there are things called Avatars and Icons. I was never sure what the difference was. Live Journal members are fond of making Icons and I thought I’d try my hand at it. With my new computer I have all my CI stuff in one place, so suddenly, it’s become a lot easier to crop and post on a whim in only a few minutes.

So, what is an avatar?
I found this acronym: Advanced Video Attribute Terminal Assembler and Recreator in my search. Wikipedia says: An avatar is a “computer user's representation of himself/herself or alter ego whether in the form of a three-dimensional model used in computer games, a two-dimensional icon”. Oh, look, there is that word icon again.

What is an icon?
When you look up icon, it opens a huge can of worms, but the most relevant definition I could find easily says “a computer icon (or simply an icon) is a small pictogram. A computer icon usually ranges from 16 by 16 pixels up to 128 by 128 pixels.” This doesn’t quite sound like what my friends are creating…. But really, who cares. What they’re doing on Live Journal are episode photos which have been cropped and reduced to 100x100pixels and are no more than 30kb. Some are “enhanced” and have text added. Many are very clever.

My inspiration comes from my friends havers and tjara. Click on their names and you can see some of their very fun blog posts featuring icons.

I adore this one from tjara. It's the "unexpected" aspect that I love.

When I realized that I “needed” an avatar when I hung out on forums, I chose my favourite promotional CI photo and popped the Dasani water bottle in behind them. It was just after Purgatory aired…. I think she handed the water to him that day.

And for my first adventure into icons, I have created three of Eames. I really don’t know... I realize they’re boring, but I like my Goren and Eames in their true colours. Maybe one day I’ll go wild; make some icons with captions and play with the colour. But for right now, this is as good as it gets! Okay, now what do I do with these things????

We see Robert Goren's home in a scant few episodes: Amends, Frame, Faithfully and Loyalty. We know from Faithfully that his address is
210 Mather Street, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY 11222

For some reason, I thought he'd moved somewhere along the way, but when putting together this mini-vid, I had to re-assess that. All scenes show the same home. The biggest difference that I noticed was the floor. And perhaps the cupboards are darker later. An eagle-eyed Susan noticed the 2 cups and bowls in Faithfully. Has he "got someone"? or does he have a higher threshold for putting his dishes away? How about that nice harvest gold stove.....?

Here, for your amusment, are most of the scenes in Robert Goren's place. There is no sound to distract you. Once you've seen it, try answering these questions. (Don't expect me to have the answers!)

Criminal Intent Binder Delivered!

On Friday, May 28th, Susan from the CI Binder Project, hand delivered Vincent D'Onofrio's binder to him in New York City at the Joe's Pub's screening of Don't Go In the Woods.

Here is Vincent signing the photo page Susan prepared ahead of time. If you look carefully on the page, you can see one of the postcards I created and made available for the Fluff Campaign.

He smiled at it. A smile from the man who created my favourite character ever. To call it sweet is an understatement.

A huge thanks to Susan for her thoughtfulness in preparing personalized sets of photos for each of us on the CI Binder Crew and for allowing us to share her experience vicariously with a story and photos - and lots of excited chatter behind the scenes.

I am still overwhelmed. We feared the binder might never reach him and that we would never know.

I've had some very very confusing YouTube revelations in the last few days. While I was checking my channel the other day, I noticed that there were more videos listed than ususal.... YouTube gave me back Perfect! Except not everyone can see it. As it turns out, it is blocked in some countries, the US being one of them! And this is the same problem with Somewhere.
Confusing!
Frustrating!
Annoying!
Unfathomable.
All of the above. So if you're in one of the "right" countries, here is Perfect - all about Goren's relationships with father figures and his drive to be perfect in order to gain the attentions of a loveless father.

Somewhere Returns One More Time

And it's back today. This poor video. YouTube gives it and takes it away and now its back after being gone for 9 months (this time). I'm thrilled! I think this has the best match for lyrics/music/mood/story of any vid I've made. The music (by Within Temptation) still gives me goosebumps!

Extended Deadline for the CI Binder Project

The deadline for submissions to the Criminal Intent Binder Project has been extended to April 24, 2010. We're getting lots of comments on the Saving Goren and Eames Blog, and there are still lots of tweets. AND there is something new on the Saving blog, too.

We've created 3 online letters, so if you don't have the time to write one, just go to the blog and sign your name - we'll add your name and any extra comments you make to the binders which are being sent to the departing actors.

Now, I'm in a position to know the tally of letters.... and I just want to say.

The Touches of Loyalty (Spoiler Alert!)

Tonight was the first of the last two Goren and Eames episodes. Among many things that were wonderful about this episode was the amount of touching. Now Criminal Intent is a touch-free zone, but they blew everything out of the water tonight and it was sweet and very, very poignant. Unlike those rare fun ones that Magra and I collected in our Bump-Touch list, these touches were normal reactions to horrible circumstances.

The scene where Goren and Eames arrive (together?) at the crime scene is magnificent. Wow, poor Rodgers! She is grief-stricken. She distressed me! She is always so calm and sardonic, this really blind-sided me.

Eames reaches out and touches her.

Then, even the reserved Goren reaches out and touches her. They have had such an interesting relationship over the years. He always challenges her and she always has an answer. And she hates it when he touches her corpses. (that doesn't sound quite right)

Then (OMG!) Alex gets a back rub. To me, this seems like such a natural thing to do to someone who is distressed. It also soothes the the person doing the rubbing. It is not something I would have anticipated in Robert Goren and it was a wonderful gift to her and to us. A simply beautiful gesture from such a reserved person.

And not only does Alex get a back rub, she gets a hug. Again a really natural thing to do for most people, but not these two. And she initially accepts it, but then pulls away with what I would interprete as a not-here/not-now shake of the head. How does Alex Eames cope with grief? She gets angry and goes to work. She was true to form.

Now do you think Eames will ever reach out to touch Goren? It's time to relax a little, Alex.

This is such a powerful scene, I really had to add these few caps. It makes me want to jump in there and make it better for them. For us, too....

This year was particularly interesting to me as I've borrowed music by two of the talented women nominated for multiple Grammies.
BEST FEMALE POP VOCAL PERFORMANCE nominations went to Katy Perry for Hot N Cold and P!nk for Sober.
I loved interpreting both songs for Criminal Intent fanvids. As soon as I heard each song, I knew exactly what I could do with them.

Although she didn't sing Sober at the Grammies, P!ink did sing Glitter in the Air and her performance tonight should go down in history. (She sang Sober at the MTV Music Awards)
Unfortunately, neither of "my" ladies won Grammies, but P!nk was simply unforgettable.

Remember Save You?

Well one thing led to another today and I ended up on my Vimeo channel, a place I seldom go. Some sweet person (I'm assuming it was one person) regularly watched Sharp Dressed Man there when it was not viewable on YouTube. Now that Sharp Dressed Man is viewable on YT (still so baffled by that!) the person no longer visits my Vimeo channel! (I get email updates from Vimeo)

What I did find on Vimeo, that I had forgotten was there, was my Save You vid. It's been forever since I watched it. I'm embedding it here with Susan's astute comment which describes, in words, exactly what I was trying to say in video format!

And you've done it with the expert timing I have happily become accustomed to in your vids. Every time I think I couldn't possibly love Goren more, you create a vid that makes me fall in love with him all over again! Thank you for sharing your thoughtfully produced work.

Sharp Dressed Man returns from Purgatory

Hmmm, not even sure there is a Purgatory clip in here - oh, yes! there is!

Out of the blue today, I had a YouTube comment which made my day - it was on Sharp Dressed Man. But, but, but...... ? YouTube blocked Sharp Dressed Man almost right away (6 months ago) because of the song..... I had left it on my account, just like I have done with other vids that have been blocked.

So a big thanks to initialswitch for a) her surprised sweet comment and b) for alerting me that SDM was "Live" again!

So vid-makers shouldn't be discouraged. Things change....

Here is a copy of a letter I sent to one media outlet:

The fans of Law & Order Criminal Intent are ticked.

I am one of those fans. Over the years I have been taken for a great ride - the fabulous evolution of Robert Goren. He began as a precocious puppy and matured through adversity to a dignified mature man, all incarnations brilliantly and subtly portrayed by Vincent D'Onofrio. Kathryn Erbe’s Eames is his perfect fit. Yin to his Yang.

I don’t believe their stories are finished and know there is a huge need for intelligent scripting, acting and production. To my delight, Criminal Intent has always filled that role.

USA Network, who treated the show so well when they acquired it, dropped the ball after its first season in their possession.

 They postponed Season 8 from fall to winter to spring, losing valuable fan support.
 They pushed Jeff Goldblum to the forefront in Season 8 promotions alienating the loyal viewers of many years and then introduced a lighter tone to the series.
 They aired Season 8 so badly out of filming order that not even the dedicated viewers could recognize the gradual and beautiful recovery of Robert Goren. Some week’s he had a beard, the next it would be gone, only to return again the next episode. USA did Vincent D’Onofrio a huge disservice here.
 And now it appears USA has offered insulting salary reductions to D’Onofrio and Erbe along with Eric Bogosian.

Vincent D’Onofrio built his detective into a TV icon and a template for a plethora of new lighter content shows. He has earned millions for NBC and USA.

USA is now willing to let him go?

Not if the fans can help it. The Criminal Intent fans are working hard to preserve at least one more season of Robert Goren, rather than the feeble single episode we are currently being promised.

Playing off USA’s quest for lighter fare, fans have initiated a Fluff Campaign. Apparently only fluffy Characters are Welcome at USA. So we are sending Fluff. Marshmallow Fluff. By the case.

Losing Goren and Eames

As you may have heard, the latest news is that Vincent D'Onofrio will only be back to Criminal Intent for the Season 9 opener. Kathryn Erbe (Eames) will only be back for a few episodes as will Eric Bogosian (Captain Ross).
From what I can gather, it's a numbers game. USA/NBC is only willing to spend so many dollars on Criminal Intent. It's how they plan to spend those dollars that drives me crazy. They are effectively dumping the actors who built this clever show.

As far as I'm concerned there is no Criminal Intent without Goren and Eames. They started the show, they have evolved the characters and they are its cornerstone.

This afternoon I sent emails to the following people and I would love to see many many others do the same.

Tell them we don't want to lose Goren and Eames from Criminal Intent and have no reason to watch their network if they do.

Things I learned from Law & Order Criminal Intent

It is with sad feelings I post this entry. The news today is that Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe and Eric Bogosian are all leaving Criminal Intent - not sure of the details. I feel like I am losing good friends. At least I know I'm not alone feeling this way.

Things I Learned From LOCI

As we wait for news of Season 9, I'd just like to say that much as I try to separate the actor from the role, Robert Goren would not exist without the brilliance of Vincent D'Onofrio. He is why I watch Criminal Intent. I await each offering, wondering what he will bring to it next. A chameleon playing a chameleon.

Alex Has A Bad Week - Vacancy

Over the last 2 seasons it’s Robert Goren who we have seen suffer personal hardships. Alex Eames only gets to do that occasionally and only for a single episode. One of the first episodes I can recall this happening in is Vacancy in Season 5.

Alex is annoyed about one thing or another during the whole episode; most of the time, with reason. She gives away a lot of herself and her personal feelings in Vacancy. Goren notices right away she is out of sorts and even fills in for questions she fails to ask.

Alex is annoyed at Alice (acquaintance of the victim) for looking to Goren to be her white knight. I get that. Knowing Alex, she would feel Alice should be responsible for herself and not go looking for a man to save her.

Alex is also annoyed with Alice for looking specifically to Goren. Alex must be feeling particularly territorial that day! Goren is very funny during that scene.

Alex is even mad at the awkward way Goren handles Alice.

Alex particularly dislikes Alice for being an irresponsible drunk with nothing but excuses. (We find out why when Alex explains to Goren in the hallway. )

She then becomes really annoyed at herself…

…For being so transparent in her hostility for the drunken Alice in front of Rainey.

…Which then leads to possibly messing up the case as Rainey's bail is lowered and doubt to his involvement rises.

…Which then leads to confessing her weakness to Goren, who was rather inept at consoling her when she broaches the subject. (HA! It was probably an act of self-preservation for him. But he also might have been surprised that she even needed his consolation.)

And all this made everyone (Deakins, Carver and who knows who else) notice it was she who may have caused the case to fall apart.

Yup. Alex was pissed. She hates being wrong. Surprisingly she did soften up to Alice and reassured her, which then annoyed Carver! She just couldn't win and she knew it.

This is all very unusual behaviour for Alex. The episode title, Vacancy, as it relates to Alex? Her normal practical sense had vacated her. Okay, I’ll say it. We might have a case of PMS. And that is probably what really ticked her off most.
A) that she was showing it and
B) that it was noticed (and no doubt commented on by her male colleagues).

Yes, Bobby was probably safe to stay as quiet as possible. She carries a gun. Did you notice he did acknowledge some responsibility for what happened by saying "He faked *us* out"? Sweet.

I really enjoyed seeing this more vulnerable side of Alex. She usually has it all together for both of them!

Just an aside: Fast forward to Lady’s Man in Season 8 and the scene in Ross’s office when he wants to take her off the case….

"A murder victim is a murder victim, our personal feelings about them don't matter. At least that's the way I've always worked a case" Hmmm, not quite Alex. You're busted! (even though Alice is not the murder victim in Vacancy, Alex has still has let her personal feeling affect the case) Poor Alex! I'm sure she'll hate being reminded of this! At times like this she's happy she's fictional!

The Recovery of Robert Goren in Season 8

Season 8 of Criminal Intent has come and gone (sniff!) for Goren and Eames and has left some of us scratching our heads....

For some reason (well beyond my comprehension) USA network showed the Criminal Intent episodes so out of order it annoyed even me. I'm almost always happily along for the ride wherever they want to take me, but this was so bizarre....

Only by seeing these episodes in the order they were filmed can you really see what a fabulous job Vincent D'Onofrio did in bringing Robert Goren back from the edge of the insanity of Frame at the end of Season 7. USA did him no favours here.

My friend Susan, who is much more eloquent than I, made this observation:
It upsets me to think that many think Vincent's performance is "flat" or that he is acting like he is bored with Goren. In my opinion, he is putting as much into Goren as he ever did, keeping the storyline real. No one gets over half of what he went through in only a few months. ...............it takes time to get over real losses, and Vincent knows that. I think he is portraying Goren as real as possible, and will continue to do so. Vincent isn't flat, he is showing us that Goren is flat, which is what happens to people when they suffer loss. Many people continue to function at work well, but lose their spark for a long while. I wish more people would "get" what he is doing and appreciate his incredible talent!

Here are 8 mini-vids from Season 8 shown as they were filmed in order to showcase Goren's recovery (from my point of view!).

Faithfully

Goren returns from his leave a week early surprising Eames. They greet each other like a pair of awkward teenagers.... Interesting.
As so often, he can't help but show amusement at Eames little comment about "entertaining". And Alex cannot help but be amused by Goren's correction of Ross about Batman. I guess at that point Ross realizes Goren is fit for duty. Goren further shows he has all watts burning with his cheeky "respectful" comment to the pastor's wife. And then shows he is still the smartest guy in the room when he enlightens Ross about the boys stuttering. I was stunned that he actually touches Ross' elbow in this clip. The interaction between Goren and Eames shows two people who are comfortable and happy to be back working together. The last clip shows that dare-I-hope thoughtful gaze.

Folie a Deux

Alex is tense and disgusted right off the bat - a child is missing. Goren is suspicious from the time he finds the glass in the carpet in the hotel room. Funny how brusquely in charge he is in the first clip - not his usual style.... Is he trying to show Ross he is on his game? Goren is still sporting the beard and longer hair. It's easy to hide behind the beard. Did you notice him pocket the money? He messes with the villains in three clips. He wears a suit. He talks over Eames, interrupting what she is saying. And he shows us a tired/disgusted/disillusioned/sad look at the end. Is he really recovering or covering up?

Identity Crisis

In this episode we see a much less take-charge, less animated Goren. Some of the beard is gone, but hair is still long (I assure you I'm not complaining!). He is quietly observant throughout. There are no glaring cheeky moments, very little "educating Ross" moments and no smiles in this episode. It all comes down to the aria with one of the most subdued and beautifully poignant endings. The parallel tragedies of dysfunctional mother and son relationships bounces back and forth between Burris and Goren. The heaviness and sadness is back in Goren's demeanor. There is no triumph with the confession.

Alpha Dog

Goren is still sporting the longer hair but a shorter scruffy beard.
In this episode he is once again more active. We see him being right a number of times; we see him amused, we see him having a tug-o-war with a bottle of scotch (this would have made it into the Hung Up vid!). We also see him uncertain when dealing with Ross, but the two of them do some wonderful team work to get their way. Goren simply looks at Eames and she takes over (more details of that can be seen in the previous blog entry here). There is one scene that I cannot quite figure out. Goren almost seems to forget what he is doing and Eames gives him a look which prompts him on to his next words.Goren is very satisfied at Deguerin’s discomfort when he enters the interrogation room and he chooses just the right words to get under Deguerin’s skin. We start to see the return of the predator's predator.
This episode was shown as the last Goren/Eames episode of the season and as much as I love Eames, it should have ended with a shot of the two of them, doing one of their classic exchanged glances.

Playing Dead

Sex, politics and weirdness. No wonder they started the season with this one. But, excuse me? To us hard core Goren fans, this was too odd. We left Bobby shell-shocked from Declan confessing to orchestrating the death of Bobby's brother. We all wondered how he was ever going to recover. So first episode back he looks and sounds as perky as this???

In this episode Goren is clean-shaven(!) with short hair and looking dapper. He is comfortably correcting Ross, he’s teaching Eames about wine and employing French accents to irritate. Robert Goren is enjoying himself.
The case turns very serious and both detectives share numerous looks showing their unhappiness with the circumstances. Goren has to feel comforted that Eames shares the same feelings and they need not be verbalized.
Goren minces no words with the villains, is dying to pick up Di Rogga’s finger, empathizes with a young woman with no overt hint of his own tragedy. In the aria he comes really close to doing a classic Goren yell at Hayes-Fitzgerald.
Yeah. Now we’re talkin’.

Lady’s Man

Now here is an episode I really must devote a blog entry to. Was this really a shippy episode? It certainly was loaded with classic Gorenisms!
He plays a drunk and a wannabe lover to get information about Eames and her relationship with Kevin Mulrooney. He even plays a bit of the hurt partner for “everything you haven’t told me”.

I think in this episode Eames was a bit sorry Goren was bouncing back! She was so sensitive about so much that had happened in the past and kept fighting Goren, her biggest ally. At one point he must have thought he was lining up for another Purgatory-type blasting from her. Goren was sharp, highly attuned to Eames (much to her annoyance) and downright nosy! He enjoyed needling everyone he interviewed, especially Mulrooney. And he even openly observed Alex like he was seeing her as someone else might. The aria was disturbing but at the end Goren put his partner first, and with a shove to Mulrooney to display his contempt, he symbolically passes the handcuffs to Alex.
But most importantly in this episode, he no longer seemed to be haunted by his own problems. He was concerned for a very important someone-else who was worth protecting.
What a beautiful progression.

All In

It's such a shame they couldn't get Lou Taylor Pucci to reprise his role as Joey Frost (Cruise to Nowhere) for this episode. It would have provided a wonderful (but ultimately sad) story arc. Most of us want to believe that Joey turned out okay.
Goren seems to be doing well; entertaining/teaching Alex by burning flash paper and sharing stories about the rifle; actively involved in analysing the scene; no conflicts or tension with Ross. Goren’s quiet pervasive sadness seems to be leaving.
You know things are much more at ease if Alex will snark at him about taking up accounting. And there he is at the white board, crunching numbers and enjoying showing off to Alex. Long gone are the days when she would roll her eyes - she gets it and runs with it. Ahhh, love the authoritative tapping of the badge, seen in episodes like The Third Horseman and Vanishing Act. Interesting that Josh can read Goren so well. In Cruise to Nowhere Joey Frost could read Eames easily and that really annoyed her.
The clip where Eames talks about losing a spouse is added for three reasons: 1) it is interesting she seems comfortable enough to talk to him about it at all 2) that she is confident he is resilient enough now to hear about it without dredging up wounds and 3) it is important in that it gives Goren his ammunition for provoking Josh at the end. There is no satisfaction in Goren’s face when Josh confesses. In light of recent Goren history, it was a jolt seeing him put the gun to his head and pulling the trigger. (If I had been Eames and he hadn’t warned me that he was going to do that, I would have shot him myself!) And how many villains has Goren quietly told to call their lawyer and what to tell that lawyer? It appears he is now able to be compassionate without becoming emotionally submerged.

Family Values

Family Values has all the elements of a great episode of Criminal Intent. Best of all a beautiful aria showing Goren mentally as light on his feet as at any other time. There are no smiles, no quirks in this episode, no friction with Ross..
At the country house Eames is Ross’ interpreter into the mind of Robert Goren. Eames verbalizes what Goren has surmised. Goren is already mentally miles ahead. And he can’t resist giving Ross a pop quiz. “You tell us”. Ross passes the quiz.
The urgency created by the dropping temperature spurs Goren into motion and the aria commences. Goren accuses Devildes of serving the devil (ha, Devil-des – kinda like Cruella DeVille in 101 Dalmatians....) and has no problem in reading him throughout the aria, but when he sees his tactic isn’t working he does a lovely pirouette and changes his aim.

We see Goren reading, manipulating, bullying, empathizing and continually re-assessing his next move. I’d say he was back in the game. And the bonus – he gets to save a life.

So if I watch these Season 8 episodes in the order in which they were intended, I do get my exchanged glance at the end. And it was a beauty – perfectly timed between them and excluded Ross completely. These two are back in synch and I can hardly wait till Season 9. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait as long this time....

Ross and Alex's Little Finger

Goren and Ross are like oil and water. But what about Eames and Ross?
Well Alex is the golden haired girl. She always gets her way when she confronts Ross.

Take, for example, in Endgame when she asks Ross to allow Goren to stay on the case. Goren is lucky his head didn't roll for insubordination. Ross tells Goren he's off the case and stalks out. Alex runs after Ross and weaves her magic with enough logic and reason that Ross gives in and allows Goren to remain on the case....

The very next Goren & Eames episode (Amends), Alex is back diffusing the testosterone crowd (even though it isn't Alex versus Ross, it's a wonderful example of how she can cut through the crap).

Later in Amends, she must convince Ross that she should remain on the case. Her logic is enough for Ross, who gives in pretty easily.....

In Untethered, Alex even yells at Ross, gets away with it and still gets his support! (When Goren did that, he got sent home for a week, with a "Rubber Gun") Instead of firing Goren, he helps Alex rescue him. Good thing, too. If they hadn't stepped in, Goren wouldn't have lasted much longer. Ross presented a pretty solid case to the wicked witch warden at Tates. I don't think Alex would have been able to pull that off so persuasively, considering how stressed she was during her emotional outburst in Ross' office.....

It seems by the end of Season 8, in Alpha Dog, they finally have figured out how to get their way with Ross without alienating Goren. Teamwork.

Ross is actually pretty amusing, he almost whines, about not wanting to be involved, but Alex tells him that he's needed.... And once again, Alex has Ross tied around her little finger without a fight. And all he can do is look at her.

I hope we see lots more of Eames and Goren cornering Ross like this!

A year later....

Today marks one year since I uploaded Walk 500 Miles. I had so much fun making this video. It took an enormous amount of time to put together and had many setbacks in the process, but I was determined to make it. I have to thank Magra forever! for her help and support in those early days!

I was trying to get a video made for today, but alas, life got in the way, as it so often does.

Thanks to everyone who has watched and commented on my vids. They are labours of love as all the other vid-makers know. You have to adore the subject to spend this much time on them. I find it hard to believe that 4 of the 15 videos have over 4000 viewings. After All is close to 5000! It’s very cool when other people enjoy something you make.

I am so lucky to have made some wonderful online friends with, ahem, similar interests, in this last year. Let’s hope we can share that interest for many more seasons!

Declan's Touch

In spite of what has happened with Declan Gage, I like him.

I asked my friends if they thought Bobby ever went to see Declan in prison. I think we're all unsure! Has he been able to forgive Declan in light of his "blown frontal lobe"? or is it just too darn painful for him to visit?

And that makes me wonder how Declan's medical condition is. Has he declined to the point where he doesn't even recognize Bobby? Since Declan is a father figure to Bobby, is Bobby inclined to be Declan's caretaker as he was to Frances?

So many unanswered questions!

And why do I like Declan when he turned into such a monster?

Bobby was the son Declan never had and his star pupil and Declan was a father figure and mentor to Bobby. Both got something very important out of the relationship. I'm positive Declan shared more with Bobby than anyone else - as much as he was capable of sharing. The two men were on the same wavelength, way ahead of everyone else in the room, making giant mental leaps in multiple directions. And Declan was FUNNY. If Frame wasn't so tragic, you could see that. But no one was laughing during Frame.

I always stand up for Declan because I can never forget their embrace in Blind Spot and the lovely relaxed happiness on their faces. Bobby fleetingly closes his eyes as they hug. There are two men who really cared about each other, although Bobby wasn't too keen on the pat on the face in front of everyone!!! lol! too cute.
The touch on the face happens again in the last few seconds of the last scene with Declan in Frame - and that touch just stirs me - Bobby sees the touch coming and does nothing to avoid it. His initial instinct is still to trust Declan and accept the caring touch. But as soon as Declan's fingers touch Bobby's face, his poor numb brain registers the horror and betrayal and he pulls away. It wrings my heart. It wrings all our hearts.

Here is our first meeting with Declan. And our last. World's apart. No sound.

She's such a beauty! I have 2 favourite clips of Alex Eames which I like to use in my vids and now, thanks to Lady's Man, I can add a new one to my collection. I've had a number of my vids hosted on Imeem. As of today Imeem removed all non-advertiser paid videos and photos, so if you've had my page bookmarked.... Well it's not very interesting anymore.

Criminal Intent - Hung Up (video)

I'm holding my breath that this will stay on YouTube!

Robert Goren is antagonistic towards authority, some rich people, villains and those who just plain ignore him. People who are Hung Up on themselves. He will do something outrageous to see the reaction it will provoke, making himself unforgettable to those he is interviewing. Are these little tugs-of-war a technique or is he just not able to help himself? Whatever it is, he gets the information he needs AND it’s entertaining!

During these clips Goren’s demeanour differs; sometimes boyish, sometimes exasperated or confused and very occasionally guardedly amused in the aftermath.

Eames usually appears to totally ignore these events. But there is no doubt that she’s noting them, no question she is amused and delighted by his nerve. She loves to watch him in action. After these little incidents, he will almost always make eye contact with her as if to ask “Did you get that? That was interesting….”….. or maybe it should be “I know you got that.”

I'm guessing it says Staten Island!

Musings on Faithfully

1. The Handcuffs.
They had their plan of attack and were confidant that Alison was going to confess. Notice the handcuffs swinging from Eames hip!

2. The Handshake
Oh, this drove me crazy Yes, they shook hands, but it was more obligatory than heartfelt.

It's here twice, once with sound and once in slow motion, zoomed with no sound. Ross can't be bothered to look directly at Goren and you can see Goren's eyebrow raise in interest.

3. The Reunion

When Goren picks up Eames at the Staten Island Ferry terminal, why is he so awkward?! 'Cause she looks so cute in her short skirt? That he will have to explain why he is back so soon? That he wonders why she is on Staten Island looking so cute?

He really can't look her in the eye and she is so happy to see him looking well that she actually tells him that. He doesn't get back on keel until they start analysing the crime scene.

Was she was with family? a date? visiting Logan? lol! That didn't look like an overnight bag over her shoulder.**

And why did he come back so early? I think it was that he was completely out of his comfort zone in a normal family situation. He wasn't "needed" (although he desparately needed to see that side of life and family and know it was there for him). He wanted to be back in his comfort zone - back at work solving crimes with Eames.

**thanks to tjara for pointing out this information on the USA site which explains "Eames....returns from Staten Island and a complicated family dynamic". So we really don't have to torture ourselves over why she was on Staten Island!

Who's the Boss?

Well Eames, of course!!

Although it was never absolutely clear until Blind Spot, I knew I had heard reference to Eames being the senior partner very early on in the series. I finally found the episode today! It's in The Third Horseman.

Of course it's always hard to know if Goren is yanking someone's chain or if it's a truth..... so it really wasn't clear she was the senior partner. They were definitely playing Mr. Cutler, although Eames was not hiding her true feelings.

A Light Bulb Moment

Sometimes when I'm working on a vid, I will come across a clip that sets off a light bulb in me.

But really, this is about a Robert Goren light bulb moment. They are a joy to see and we don't observe them so much any more. In the early years he was the Predator's Predator and showed it. He still hunts them, it's just different now.

I give you this example (with no sound), from Jones. Watch his hairline, then the growing "gotcha" look. It makes you want to jump up and say "Go get him!!".
Yes, this man talks with his hairline....

That Step Forward

Well, there is a CI Marathon on Mystery Channel today and boy! it's hard to stay away from the tv! You'd think Mystery was gearing up for Season 8. One of the episodes in the marathon was Frame.

That step forward I'm referring to is from Frame.

Here is that step forward with no sound to distract us, once at normal speed and once in slow motion.

It wasn't until I watched Magra's Frame vid that I realized Goren really had stepped forward. I had initially thought he was just shifting. Upon countless musings, I came to realize how significant that subtle step forward was. (You can find it used right at the end of My Life)

After completely losing his cool in the morgue, Eames gives Goren a "graceful" exit. He stalks outside, replying curtly to Eames' words and then stops as he realizes what she is trying to tell him. The look in her eyes tells him she's there to help if he'll only listen. Goren finally starts thinking instead of reacting.

At first he is almost incoherent, then slowly, sentence by sentence, we can see him engaging in what she is telling him.

As the last of the fury leaves him and he steps toward her, his shoulders relax and he sighs. He is ready to come back into her "circle". By stepping towards her, he acknowledges he is calm and ready to use his head - and accept that he isn't alone. The step towards her is also an apology.

Apologizing for what? His behaviour? Pushing her away? Probably both.

Suddenly he is her gentle giant again.

Beautifully acted with the subtlety that I love in this show.

Marie recently emailed me with a very important question. (I tell you, these new episodes just can't come fast enough....) Did I think that Goren touched Eames as they got into the elevator in Great Barrier?
