Hello!!!

Just dropping in to say Hi as I was tidying up my digital life!  It's been a long time.

So with Stabler back in the Law & Order fold, is it time for Goren and Eames to return?

Haven't Disappeared! Spending more time on LJ

No, I haven't disappeared or lost my love of Criminal Intent.  I'm just enjoying "simple" challenges over at LiveJournal's tv_universe and on Tumblr.

My current fascination is with Longmire which is going through the cancellation thing just as Criminal Intent did.  In the end, NBC sort of made things right there.  Longmire, which is owned by Warner Bros and was licensed to A&E, is being shopped around to other networks. I sure hope it finds a new home.  I'm posting (almost) daily favourite Longmire screencaps on Tumblr, but I could never repeat what I did for Criminal Intent.

Here is my just completed Longmire vid.  It was assembled pretty quickly by my standards, as an "Inspired by a Song" challenge piece. Although not a song I would normally have chosen, it turned out to be a lot of fun - which tv_universe usually is!  Come join us!

I may as well make this one of my Community promotions!

Kathryn Erbe Guest Starring on L&O:SVU This Fall!

Well, I guess SVU will gain (or re-gain) one fan this fall.  At least for one episode - and maybe more if rumours are correct.

TV Line reported that Kathryn Erbe will be bringing Alex Eames to Law & Order: SVU for one episode.  Alex is now with Homeland Security.  But Goren. Where is my Robert Goren??  That might have to be left up to our imagination.  Ah, well, as my friend Susan would say, he is always in her heart.  I think a lot of us feel that way, but as usual, she says it perfectly.

Here is a link to the full article.  This just made my day!

Criminal Intent meets Person of Interest

Over the past months I have become more and more invested in Person of Interest.  If you follow my YouTube channel, you know exactly where my "fan"tasies are!

Well tonight, No Good Deed 1.22 was the penultimate episode of the PoI season and I knew it was time for a blog post.

One of the stars of Person of Interest is Michael Emerson - he is Harold Finch. Here is an actor that always lands on his feet. Criminal Intent fans know him as the unforgettable Gerry Rankin in Phantom way back in Season 1 in 2002.  Oh, my, that's a long time ago!  He's the guy who had Goren running and almost blew his kids away.  Like I say, unforgettable.  It's taken me a while to get over the bad guy taste in my mouth that he left me with.
So that would be the first PoI connection to Criminal Intent.

Another face that has cropped up more recently, in three episodes so far, is actress Elizabeth Marvel.  In PoI, she is Alicia Corwin and it seems both Finch and Reese know her, but we don't know if the other knows it.

For the Criminal Intent Fans, Elizabeth Marvel was Sylvia Moon in Art, Season 1 (2001) and then again in Season 5, Prisoner (2005) as Jenny Hendry.

Now I really cannot tell why I like Mark Snow. This is from the scene where Carter sneers at him as he walks away.  He is really being a threat to our favourite PoI man. However, if we're lucky, he's dead.  But he's such a charming bad guy!

Michael Kelly was in Boots on the Ground, S10 of Criminal Intent.

There were two shocker appearances in tonight's episode that had me squealing!

Actress Carrie Preston was awesome in three episodes of Criminal Intent as
Megan Colby, a small part in Zoonotic (2003);
Doreen Whitlock, a tragically abused wife, in Magnificat (2004) and as Lena Copeland in Bedfellows (2006).
Ms. Preston has been cracking me up as a guest star on six episodes of The Good Wife over the last couple of years.

But what is even more amusing is that in real life she is married to Mr. Phantom himself Michael Emerson.  And tonight she played Finch's fiance.  How cute is that?

And last but not least....

The Big Bad Guy trying to eliminate this week's Person of Interest, was Jay O. Sanders, who played  Captain Joseph Hannah in the final season of Criminal Intent, but was really memorable as Harry Rowan in Dead (2002) who was as big and tall and almost as smart as Goren. (Okay, okay!  No one is as smart as Goren!)
And that's all the connections I've noticed so far.  Let me know if you've seen more!
Feel free to check out my current PoI vid (I'm working on another).  Thanks for reading!

The Walking Dead - Sophia Wasn't Mine - Daryl's Rant

As I mentioned yesterday in my post, I used three clips in Untouchable that were from the last episode S2E9, Triggerfinger. Here is the most of the scene I was referring to.  It's only from watching and hanging out with Criminal Intent types that I ever would have known to look more deeply into what went on during this scene.  It was amazing.  The analysis is below the video.
If you are receiving this as an email update, please click on the title so you can view the video on the blog.

This is such an amazing scene and I was completely driven to analyzing it to death.  If you want the full meal deal, read on.
We don’t know too much about Carol.  She is very quiet and her emotions are cloaked in reserved dignity.  But every time Daryl opens his mouth, we learn far more about him than the words he’s speaking.  He is the bubbling cauldron of volatile emotions.
Carol is tenacious, that’s for sure.  He doesn’t scare her at all. And neither does walking across a big field at night to talk to him. Really, she has nothing left to lose, so why not be eaten by a walker?  So sad.  I keep thinking the reality of Sophia’s loss hasn’t hit her yet.

Their conversation isn’t much of a conversation. He’s just mad and sarcastic.  He doesn’t care what she’s saying, he’s just ready to vent, to insult her, to drive her away. The comment about sticking her nose in everybody else’s business is just plain mean.  And not very accurate from what I can see. But this is Daryl grieving.

When Carol replies “Go ahead”, at first I thought she was inviting more insults, let him rant and get it out of his system.  I really hope that’s what she wanted, but I’m afraid she was offering herself up to be hit. Oh, yuck, Carol.  Daryl doesn’t get it, but then after a second, I’m pretty sure he does.  To his credit, he *doesn’t* get it at first.  Obviously hitting women is not part of who he is. (We know there is far more behind that façade.  He’s only shown it to Carol though, so he’s probably feeling vulnerable around her.)
Carol stands her ground and says nothing.  At first he is not focused at all when he calls her “a real piece of work” and assumes she’s judging him and his upbringing.  But she hasn’t said a word.  Then he begins to focus and drill into her.  He is cruel. Perhaps part of what he says is true.  And still she stands her ground.

Daryl cannot cope with Carol because she didn’t react to Sophia’s death the way he wanted or expected her to.  Her grief seemed almost non-existent. She didn’t go to Sophia’s “funeral”, he did.
Maybe the reason Carol went out to Daryl that night was because she was looking to feel something.  Anything.  And she knew that he’d beat her up – somehow. But I’m not sure about that.  He certainly beat her up verbally.  I suppose that’s a step above physical abuse.

Why does he say “You ain’t my problem”?  Because he wishes she was? Because he wishes he could comfort her? But he comes completely unequipped to handle the whole situation.  For the first time in his life he felt like part of a family and that has been taken away.
The most interesting line was “Sophia wasn’t mine” and the unspoken part of that that came through loud and clear to me was saying “then why does this hurt so much?”

He may as well have shot her with an arrow from his crossbow with his last line which was full of fury. So cruel and unfair. He *knows* they were always together or Sophia was with Carl. Carol’s head whips back as though she’s been struck.  Whoa.  Brilliant acting!
After that, his expression is way too enigmatic for me, but he’s watching her like a hawk.  It’s so dark, it’s hard to see details in their expressions. Such a shame.  I don’t think there are any tears on Carol’s face.  But after she agrees with him, she heaves an exquisite tiny sob.  Another brilliant gem.

Of course he cares about her or he wouldn’t have caught her as she went running to Sophia.  Perhaps he feels he failed her and seeing her reminds him of his failure.  Maybe he feels un-needed or useless.
Did either of them get what they needed here?  I think so. It’s a start.  And it won’t be smooth.  I can’t wait to see what happens next!

In case it doesn’t come across in this analysis, I adore both these beautifully flawed characters! And (for what it’s worth) a huge thumbs up from me to the writers and fabulous actors Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride.

The Walking Dead - Daryl & Carol - Untouchable (video)

I'm thinking there must be *one* Walking Dead fan out there who might appreciate this!!

This video has been brewing for quite some time.  I really didn't care much for The Walking Dead the first season.  I'm not a big fan of gore however talented the "costume" crew is.  But when that wild man Daryl (if he was a person I met in real life he would scare me to death) brought the Cherokee Rose to Carol with such a beautifully eloquent presentation of the story behind it, I sat up straight and wanted to know more about him. Why does he care, why does he want to share and how does he know how to tell a story so well?

We know far more about Daryl than Carol, but an amazing bond developed there, initiated by him.  We know from his conversation with Andrea that he understands being lost, as Sophia was lost, but in his case no one was looking for him.  So he is an abused kid.  And if you don't get it from that, you get it from his flinch when Carol leans over to kiss him.  It's such a foreign concept to be touched with affection.

All we really know about Carol is that she lives with an abusive husband and has a loving healthy relationship with her daughter.  She has faith, she often appears impassive, but tears will roll down her cheeks giving away the emotion inside.  She is the total opposite of Daryl whose feelings boil under the surface and he will lash out and move into "attack mode" in an instant.

We get insight into his life and relationship with his brother Merle when he is hallucinating in pain, an arrow piercing his side. Their whole culture is based on contempt.  I was left with the impression that Daryl tried hard to live up to Merle's reputation, but also wanted and needed to be unique.

So when I really listened to all of My Skin by Natalie Merchant, I knew this was a match that would work.
"Untouchable"  is a repeated lyric.  I knew that was perfect for Carol and Daryl, but Sophia became untouchable after she was bitten - that didn't occur to me until I was making the vid.

"Slow dying flower".  Both Daryl and Carol are slow dying flowers who need saving.  I hope they are sufficiently different in their needs that they can save each other.  Unexpectedly, the Cherokee Rose, which represents hope in Daryl's story, can parallel the slow dying flower.  Carol is ripping them out of the ground after Sophia's death.

"Contempt loves the silence, It thrives in the dark, with fine winding tendrils that strangle the heart" perfectly describes Daryl, especially now that he has isolated himself away from the group as he grieves the loss of Sophia.  I hope Carol gets through to him and draws him back.  She seems determined to do so.

"Angel sweet love of my life" of course was Sophia.  Without her, this song would not have worked so well for these two.  i.e. I would have had to do some fancy interpretation!

"Is it dark enough?  Can you see me? Do you want me?  Can you reach me?  Or, I'm leaving"  I have only once worked with clips that were so "fresh" and that was a instrumental piece of music (Loyalty), so it was stunning that these new clips just slipped perfectly into place after Sophia's death.

There are three clips included from last night's episode S2E9 and well, that's a whole 'nother subject. In the meantime....  (the lyrics are below)

My Skin - Natalie Merchant

Take a look at my body
Look at my hands
There's so much here that I don't understand
Your face saving promises
Whispered like prayers
I don't need them

I've been treated so wrong
I've been treated so long
As if I'm becoming untouchable

Well contempt loves the silence
It thrives in the dark
With fine winding tendrils
That strangle the heart

They say that promises sweeten the blow
But I don't need them, no I don't need them

I've been treated so wrong
I've been treated so long
As if I'm becoming untouchable
I'm a slow dying flower
Frost killing hour
The sweet turning sour and untouchable

O, I need the darkness
The sweetness
The sadness
The weakness
O, I need this

I need a lullaby
A kiss good night
Angel sweet love of my life
O, I need this
I'm the slow dying flower
frost killing hour
The sweet turning sour and untouchable

Do you remember the way that you touched me before
All the trembling sweetness I loved and adored
Your face saving promises whispered like prayers
I don't need them
No, I don't need them

I need the darkness
The sweetness
The sadness
The weakness
Oh, I need this

I need a lullaby
A kiss good night
Angel sweet love of my life
Oh, I need this

Well is it dark enough?
Can you see me?
Do you want me?
Can you reach me?
Or I'm leaving

You better shut your mouth
And hold your breath
kiss me now
And catch your death

Oh, I mean this

Ships in the Night

So, no, this isn't a Criminal Intent post, but I had to share this vid with anyone and everyone I know in my "fun" life.

The amazing TatyanaOracle created this vid for me as a Christmas present. Tatyana is amazing, her talent is amazing and this video is amazing.   Every time I watch it, I see something new, both content-wise and technically. (It took me many viewings to see Erica ghost into view at :49-:51).
If you don't subscribe to Tatyana on YouTube, you should! You'll never be bored as she vids almost anything you'd imagine - except vampires. She has this vampire thing..... vbg.

I really enjoyed this series - the characters are what kept me coming back every week. Jack and Erica were sometimes like oil and water, but had the same moral center which bonded them.  He never lost his focus or moral compass and his purpose was to center her when she was pulled in every direction imaginable. I think I was also charmed that this was filmed in Vancouver and I love spotting landmarks.

And did I mention this was an amazing vid?  Tatyana has shown all the things mentioned in the last paragraph and more.  It is a wonderful gift that I enjoy almost daily!

Criminal Intent (Vidlet) - My Skin

Another finished challenge for TVRealm.  One of the (hopefully) ten vidlets.
I'm pretty pleased with this.  Far more shippy than intended.

The music is amazing: Natalie Merchant - My Skin
I hope someone likes it!!

TVRealm Challenge - My Awards

Well normally I wouldn't take the time to do this, but I'm part of a *team*, so I strained my brain and came up with these categories and nominees for the
Mine, All Mine Awards.

The most heartwrenching moment for me would be a tie between Goren and Hotch.  Holy smokes, those were amazing scenes.

And the Up-Do Award.  Well that's a Penelope Garcia slam-dunk.
Amuse yourself!  I did!

Criminal Intent Vidlet - Robert Goren's Quirk/Habit

This is again for the TV Realm Challenge on LiveJournal.
We had to use someone doing something. Goren is my "someone" and since he often crosses his arms.....

The music is Orinoco Flow from Celtic Woman.

I hope you enjoy this tiny vid!

An Excuse to Play With Criminal Intent

If you read my Human Target Blog or follow my LiveJournal, you'll know that I've joined this round of the TV Realm Challenge.  I really wasn't sure about this, but thanks to the support of havers (havers on LJ and Blog Mom of Lovely Kathryn) I'm having a blast!

Because I love making fanvids so much, I'm trying to do them for as many challenges as I can.

My first chance for vidding was the Bingo Challenge:

Each participant had to choose a row and a column or a diagonal... you know, Bingo.
So I chose the column starting with The End and the row starting with Memories. Don't ask about the abbreviations. I just don't even want to know!

Vids have to be over 10 seconds. Not a problem. Making them shorter is a problem. I hate cutting up the music.

The End had to be Criminal Intent, from the last scene in the series and it got long enough that it went on its own.

So far, along with The End, I've done Just Kiss The Girl (twice, once for the column and once for the row), Bliss, Shine and Dress Up. Human Target is in Just Kiss the Girl and Dress Up.

You give the Bliss prompt to a V (2009) fan and there is only one thing you can do with it...  You'll find Eames and Goren show up in Dress Up - and Eames is wearing the dress that havers now owns - how cool is that?
Enjoy! (only 4 more to go....  only....)

Criminal Minds - Emily Prentiss - Calls Me Home (video)

Yes, I'm cheating on Robert Goren again, I'm afraid...  At lease it's "Criminal" something!

If you are receiving this as an email update, please click on the title to view the video on the web.

I was so upset when they wrote Emily Prentiss out of Criminal Minds!  I guess it’s a case of not realizing how much you care about something till it’s gone.
When I heard they were bringing her back, I was dancing the happy dance and it must have been a BIG happy dance - enough to tip me into vidding a new fandom - and so the months of work began.

My fond thanks to the vibrant Paget Brewster for bringing the intelligent, feisty and caring Emily Prentiss to life on the screen.  Welcome back!
Hopefully they now know each other’s secrets and Hotch won’t continue to pay the price for keeping Emily’s from Morgan….  What burdens Hotch bears.

I hope this vid is up to joining some very amazing Criminal Minds fanvids.  I’ve been a fan since Day 1 and have enjoyed every minute of making this vid.  It was fun finding clips of Emily with each of her teammates. Some clips were obvious choices, some I fell on unexpectedly, only recalling them when quickly reviewing an episode. I'm pretty nervous about sharing it with hardcore fans!
I adore this song. Video creation happens way faster when I can't get the song out of my head....  And I knew I was spending too much time vidding when I was dreaming about Hotch - and he wasn't even the focus of this vid!
This video should be viewable everywhere.  When you see it anywhere else on YouTube, there is no link to iTunes and I have had no email from YT about using the song.
Here are the lyrics.  I hope you enjoy the video.
Calls Me Home – Shannon LaBrie
It's funny how, the walk of life,
Can take you down without a fight.
So many years, can lay behind,
Regretfully until it's time,
To realize the moment,
When you turn around.

I'm coming home to breathe again,
To start again,
I'm coming home,
From all the places I have been,
With nothing but a voice within,
That calls me, calls me home.

Back in the day when I was younger,
I was so lost and proud.
I've gained the world but it will never,
Compare to what I've earned.
In the quiet moment,
When the earth holds still.

I'm coming home to breathe again,
To start again,
I'm coming home,
From all the places I have been,
With nothing but a voice within,
That calls me, calls me home,
Calls me home.

I'm coming home to breathe again,
To start again,
I'm coming home to breathe again,
To start again,
I'm coming home,
From all the places I have been,
With nothing but a voice within,
That calls me...

Criminal Intent - Great Companion (video)

"And some memories will never, ever fade..."
(if you are receiving this as an email update, please click on the title to view the video on the blog)

"And our history will never be erased."
Robert Goren and Alex Eames, Bobby and Alex, however you know them, they were our great companions for most of the last 10 years.

This is a request for jclaymate123, who has since closed her YT account. If someone knows her, perhaps they can let her know this vid is here.

There are 49 episodes included here - hard to believe, eh?  I love how Season 10, after the Loyalty hug, is so bright!  That wasn't me doing that, it was the production and I though it created such a satisying ending during the instrumental "epilogue".  It's like they will go on and on forever.

There really was nothing new here, except a few kernals of expression that I might not have highlighted before. Sorry about that..... I decided to choose scenes, rather than orphan random clips for this. A 5 minute video was a huge challenge!  And yet it wasn't enough time.  I need to go back to the series DVDs and watch full episodes for real satisfaction!

I hope you enjoy Great Companion!
P.S.  Thanks to Susan for acquiring the acoustic version of Great Companion!

Criminal Intent - We want Season 11 with Goren and Eames (Video)

Over on the Saving Goren and Eames Blog we've started another campaign! It's called Operation Tie Clips and Skittles in honour of Goren's favourite fashion accessory and Eames favourite junk food.  Both Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe have said they'd love to do another season of Criminal Intent, so we'd like to see if we can help that along.  How do you join in?  Send tie clips and Skittles to USA Network.  Read about it on this blog post!  We've even had the thumbs up from Dick Wolf.

Here is our "commercial"!  This is such a light fun song that I wish it was a full vid!  Thanks to tjara for introducing me to it.  You can buy this song on iTunes.  It's called You and Me (In My Pocket) by Milow.

Please feel free to embed this commercial in your own blog or anywhere it will do some good!

If you are receiving this as an email update, please click on the title to view the video on the blog.

Let's Fight!

Over on the Saving Goren and Eames Now Blog, Susan posted a list of opportunies to express to the Powers That Be that we would like more Goren and Eames!  The writing this season has been wonderful and the actors are reflecting that in their performances.  The whole atmosphere has changed.

Newcomers to the series should enjoy it at its face value, but long-time fans will enjoy it for the subtle references to past years.
Please take a moment to check this out and write a few emails.  We succeeded once, we can make it happen again!

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" Comes to an End

Here is a wonderfully accurate summary of Criminal Intent found in BeyondChron.  Sunday is the last episode....

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" Comes to an End
by E. "Doc" Smith‚ Jun. 24‚ 20

One of the most popular and my personal favorite of the entire "Law & Order" television franchise, "Criminal Intent" comes to a close this Sunday night after a 10 year run; 7 years on NBC and 3 years on the USA network. Starring the incredible Vincent D'Onofrio as the complex Detective Robert "Bobby" Goren and his partner, Detective Alexandra Eames, portrayed by the equally talented Kathryn Erbe, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" chronicled the exploits of the NYPD's "Major Case Squad". Goren's skill as a brilliant criminal profiler, coupled with the snarky wit of Eames and a bevy of great guest stars, helped make the show one of the best police dramas ever written for television.

Fans of the show fell in love with Goren's idiosyncracies; the way he would bend his body and lean over suspects to interrogate them; his now legendary, long running battle with serial killer Nicole Wallace, played by Olivia D'Abo; his affection for his mom, wonderfully played by Rita Moreno and the discovery that serial killer William Brady, portrayed by actor Roy Scheider in one of his final performances. D'Onofrio and Erbe's performances throughout these personal story-lines took the series into territories not usually seen on the original Law & Order' or in the other spin-offs like. "Special Victims Unit", "LA", "Trial By Jury" and even "Law & Order: UK". Criminal Intent's popularity would also spawn an international version of the series in France, known as "Criminal Investigations", ('Paris enquêtes criminelles").

Goren's relationship with his partner Eames is also one of the best on television, well written and handled with care. Their affection for one another is evident, and the way the writers of the show have forged their friendship through the fire of their cases is remarkable. Read the rest of the article here.  Well worth the time!

Johnny Eames & Daughter

This scene from Last Street in Manhattan S10E4 completely blindsided me! I had this preconceived notion that Eames was a Daddy’s girl and their relationship was a doting father to his spunky daughter. Of course it might have been that way in the past, but not now.

No wonder Eames is so walled in. I question if she’s ever had any warmth from this father especially when sober. There were no touches, no words of affection. She snarks and he doesn’t notice or chooses not to notice. She might even be holding back... When I see this it explains why she has almost never touched Goren in their 11 or 12 years as partners (just check the Bump/Touch list!). There are certainly no ODAs (Open Display of Affection) from this woman. I’m starting to think that it’s not just Goren who has survived a difficult upbringing.

We know Eames mother had a stroke, but we don’t know if she passed away or is in a home. Whichever, Johnny Eames is not doing well, unless you regard sitting in his chair drinking and smoking all day a good quality of life. It looks like Alex doesn’t think so – she caps his whiskey bottle and empties his ashtray with a stony expression. I wonder how many times a week she does this? Her demeanor is not that of a child that’s happy to drop in on her parent with a smile and easy conversation. Is she just uncomfortable because Goren is there? I think not.

I found it interesting that Alex emphasizes her father's bigotry in front of Goren. We all know Goren is getting tons of information about them both without Alex speaking a word. He watches her fuss around with interest, perhaps even surprise. He appears comfortable in Johnny Eames' home, he may have been there before, but he still refers to him as Mr. Eames.

Do you think Alex was appalled that her Dad equated Bobby with Driscoll in such an insulting way?
“He’s a monster.”
“But smarter than he looks.” (from Goren)
“Just like you Bobby”
OMG! I think I would have shot my Dad!!! Alex tells her Dad to eat his sandwich…. (and shut up, would be the subtext)

Do you think it’s the booze talking when Mr. Eames complains about no grandchildren? He seems to have pretty selective memories concerning a certain surrogate pregnancy. That was a horribly cheap shot on his part. Does the lack of grandchildren from Alex reflect on him or does he feel that Alex isn’t complete without children?
Now normally Goren and Eames would exchange glances after a comment like that from a suspect, but Goren looks down before that can happen. And it looks like she isn't going to do the eye contact thing anyway.

The best part of this scene was after they left. It was wonderful to see Goren put his own sad history behind  to make such a sweet comment praising, supporting and encouraging her with a simple, “It’s good he has you”.
It’s a personal comment so out of the norm for these two that she brushes it off with “Yeah, whatever”. Do you think she realizes how significant his words are? Perhaps not at that moment.
Goren is not the only person with a difficult parent relationship. Maybe he’s taking the opportunity to return some of the quiet non-judgmental support she always provided for him. Good on him! He’s come a long way.
